An immersive visual play
The Song Collector is an immersive video-based theatrical installation, inspired by folk song collector Lucy Broadwood. Step inside Lucy’s room, where you are welcome to browse her collection – and add to it.
Lucy Broadwood (1858-1929)’s story is unique, because it’s not just about music. As an upper class unmarried woman, she was an exception and way ahead of her time. Through playing the organ in her local church, she got to meet the local working men and persuaded them to share their songs with her. She collected many folk songs, songs about love, work, politics and desire. Songs that were shared within communities, thus storing their collective memories. What’s your song memory?
The Song Collector is a 30 minute long site-specific show for maximum 4 people at a time. First shows were held in Vancouver in September 2025, and we’re planning to bring the show to new locations soon. Next to this, we are also working on a VR version of this experience.
